Spittal still believes Jags can shoot up the table
BLAIR SPITTAL is confident Partick Thistle have the firepower to haul themselves away from the Premiership relegation battle this term.
The Jags return to league action against Dundee on Saturday and have Neil McCann’s side firmly in their sights in the table.
Striker Connor Sammon has netted six times in his last seven outings in red and yellow, while Kris Doolan has moved to within one strike of a century of league goals for Thistle.
And Spittal believes boss Alan Archibald has enough attacking talent in his ranks to ensure the Jags can move up the standings sooner rather than later.
He said: “The gaffer spoke at the start of the season about how he didn’t want to have to rely on Dools as much this year and a lot of the boys have chipped in for us. For me, the goals have dried up a bit unfortunately but I think my performances have been OK over the last couple of weeks.
“Big Sammy has hit a good bit of form, and Miles is playing well as well. There are a lot of boys playing well and that is good for the squad.
“We are defending a lot better as a team overall and, going forward, we do have players that can go and cause problems.
“Away from home, we might need to make sure we take at least a point. But our home form has been good and we have to try and pick up as many points as we can at home.”
Thistle are just three points clear of bottom of the table Ross County and one ahead of eleventh placed Hamilton ahead of the visit of the Dees this weekend.
Victory at Firhill would teams be a major boost to their chances of beating the drop and Spittal has faith in Archibald’s side ahead of a crucial finale this term.
He said: “It has been well documented that the club have been in this position before and managed to pull through.
“We have to make sure that we are pulling away from the teams below us over the next few weeks so we can push to finish as high as we can.”
