Free le­gal ad­vice while you shop

SHOP­PERS at one of Glas­gow’s busiest re­tail cen­tres are be­ing of­fered free le­gal ad­vice.

A team of law stu­dents will be run­ning a weekly clinic in Buchanan Gal­leries aimed at peo­ple who don’t qual­ify for le­gal aid and can’t af­ford pro­fes­sional help.

The team from Glas­gow Cale­do­nian Univer­sity will be of­fer­ing ad­vice on hous­ing, em­ploy­ment and con­tract law.

The stu­dents can also draft le­gal let­ters, rep­re­sent clients in court and ne­go­ti­ate on be­half of clients in con­trac­tual dis­putes.

All of the ad­vice pro­vided by the team of stu­dent vol­un­teers is su­per­vised by a qual­i­fied le­gal prac­ti­tioner. The team will be based in Good, on the first floor ev­ery Wed­nes­day, from 11am to 4pm, un­til the end of April.

Stu­dents are also work­ing with lo­cal schools, ed­u­cat­ing chil­dren on how the law im­pacts on their lives and their rights and pro­tec­tions.

The clinic has been short­listed in the Com­mu­nity Con­tri­bu­tion cat­e­gory at the Scott & Co Le­gal Awards 2018, along­side Digby Brown Solic­i­tors, An­der­son Strath­ern and Fac­ulty of Ad­vo­cates.
