Planners give green light for156SouthSidehomes

A BID to erect more than 150 new homes in Pollokshaws has been given the green light by city planners.

Glasgow-based construction company CCG (Scotland) Ltd has been granted planning approval to build 156 contemporary, energy-efficient homes in the South Side.

The new Riverford Gardens will offer a range of properties in a highly desirable location on Riverford Road.

Councillor for the area Kyle Thornton has already given his backing to the proposal.

He told the Evening Times: “The area is undergoing a real transformation with a number of new housing projects starting soon.

“The attraction of Pollokshaws is a combination of its excellent transport links, amenities right on your doorstep in the retail park and Silverburn and a proactive local community.

“The scale of the regeneration is welcome but we also need to be proactive in upgrading local roads infrastructure and ensuring that we have the school capacity and health services to support a growing community and see it thrive.”

A total 40 three and four-bedroom townhouses, 12 three-bedroom semidetached houses and 104 one and two-bedroom flats will be built in the development.

The site is bound by views of the White Cart River and is complete with public green space and is adjacent to local amenities and transport links.

Cllr Josephine Docherty has praised the site for its variety.

She said: “I think it’s wonderful. There are many builders wishing and queuing up to build i n Pollokshaws.

“The connectivity of the area is second to none. It has a marvellous old, old history. It only came to Glasgow in 1912, before that it was a borough on its own, and there’s still this sort of feel that it’s a little different, it’s its own place.

“The good thing about these houses is there’s quite a good mixture of houses with gardens and flats. I seen the building of the high flats and then their demolishment so now to see these new homes go up is fantastic.”

CCG is set to begin full construction works this spring.

Calum Murray, director of CCG, said: “Across Glasgow we have delivered award-winning developments in affordable housing as well as a series of luxury developments in Glasgow’s West End.

“These credentials have given us the confidence in the market to relaunch the CCG Homes brand and the development at Riverford Gardens, which will be one of the largest private housing developments in Glasgow.

“With a range of house types and a contemporary design, we are confident this development will be a success and one that the market eagerly awaits.”

The development isn’t the only project going on in the area.

In January, the Evening Times reported work had started on 42 homes on the Shawbridge Street flats site.

The new properties will be a mix of flats, supported accommodation and houses.
