Goldson would be worth his weight to shaky Gers defence

Evening Times - - SPORT -

IT has been an encouraging start to the summer for Rangers in terms of players coming in and Ovie Ejaria became the fourth signing when he moved from Liverpool this week.

Hopefully we can get the deal for Connor Goldson over the line in the coming days and he can become an integral part of the team.

I have been saying for years that we needed a big, strong, solid centrehalf in the team. We needed a Tam Forsyth, someone, with the greatest of respect to Tam, that takes no prisoners.

Goldson seems to fit that bill and Steven Gerrard will have known that he had to add a bit of height and physicality to the team.

We need players with a bit of fight, players with the right mentality, and by all accounts Goldson ticks those boxes.

With Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor also coming in and Jamie Murphy making his move permanent, you have to say it has been a good few weeks for Rangers.

I would hope that before we go to Spain next weekend there will be a few more in and the manager can spend the trip getting people integrated into the squad and the team.

It is a huge season for Rangers and we need to start well so having the players in, and getting the mentality right, as early as possible is going to be crucial for the manager.
