First Minister leaves Spain off ‘air bridge’ list for travel

England’s list gave country green light

- BY STEWART PATERSON

THE First Minister has said Spain must stay on the list of countries that requires people to quarantine if they come to Scotland. Nicola Sturgeon said Spain and Serbia still have a rate of infection too high to allow them to be included on the list of “air bridges”.

The UK Government published a list of 59 countries that were low or medium risk, with people in England able to travel to them without quarantining on return.

Sturgeon said that Scotland would also allow travel from those countries – with the exception of Spain and Serbia.

Italy, France and Germany are among those that do not require quarantining on return.

She also confirmed that even if you fly back into an airport in England then travel to Scotland, you must self-isolate for 14 days.

The First Minister said: “Thanks to efforts all of us have made Scotland now has low and declining prevalence of the virus.

“Our current central estimate is that for every 100,000 people, 28 have Covid.”

She said it is “not eliminated”, but noted that Scotland has a lower rate than the UK, where it is 180 per 100,000 people.

Sturgeon added: “This is relevant to decisions we take.”

She said some countries, such as Denmark, have prevalence that is lower than Scotland, but others, including Spain where it is 330 people per 100,000, are higher.
