Residents and councillors were also concerned the proposals for a 17-storey development at 213A New City Road were too close to the M8.
Elder and Cannon Architects had drawn up proposals on behalf of their client, Bankell Developments.
The proposals were in the pre-planning stage.

PATIENTS being treated for infectious diseases at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital could have been put at risk after an investigation found widespread shortages of antibacterial hand gel outside wards.
The Evening Times carried out tests of hand rub dispensers at the hospital, which was facing a government inquiry after two patients died after contracting an infection linked to pigeon droppings, and found the shortages.
