Residents and councillor­s were also concerned the proposals for a 17-storey developmen­t at 213A New City Road were too close to the M8.

Elder and Cannon Architects had drawn up proposals on behalf of their client, Bankell Developmen­ts.

The proposals were in the pre-planning stage.

PATIENTS being treated for infectious diseases at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital could have been put at risk after an investigat­ion found widespread shortages of antibacter­ial hand gel outside wards.

The Evening Times carried out tests of hand rub dispensers at the hospital, which was facing a government inquiry after two patients died after contractin­g an infection linked to pigeon droppings, and found the shortages.
