EVERGREEN MELODIES AND YESTERDAY’S MUSIC

Evergreen - - Percy's Post Bag -

Aquarter of a century ago, our then Editor, Roy Faiers, decided to establish an in- house record company and was immediately advised to contact Eric Holmes, a retired local television and recording engineer with a huge record collection and an encyclopedic knowledge of British and American dance bands. The result was Evergreen Melodies, later renamed Yesterday’s Music. More than 225 CDs later, the label is thriving, with Eric still firmly at the controls.

It has been my reward to work with him on most of these CDs and I am delighted to pay public tribute to our resident octogenarian who has spent countless hours remastering thousands of tunes from hundreds of old LPs, EPs and 78s, some dating back more than 90 years and many rescued from charity shops and car boot sales. I know our readers appreciate his efforts so here is the maestro pictured hard at work in his recording studio.

Yesterday’s Music currently offers more than 150 different CDs, ranging from individual artistes to full orchestras, from dance bands and popular tunes to both light and more serious music, either singly or in a variety of exciting series.
