SIR: My sister in Cape Town forwards me Evergreen from time to time, which she receives from a friend in the UK. I do so enjoy the magazine with all the letters, jokes and old memories. One particular favourite memory of mine was in the late Forties when we were living in Kent, and I first heard the series Dick Barton Special Agent. At 6.45 each evening we all sat round the radio to hear the latest episode of our daring hero.

I’ve not seen this programme mentioned in your magazine and wonder if any other of your readers have memories of this thrilling series. It really was enormous fun. — MRS. AUDREY GIACOMIN, BULL CREEK, PERTH, WESTERN

AUSTRALIA. * We have mentioned Dick Barton several times and an article about the programme appeared in our “On the Air” series in Summer 1989. I have no doubt though that he will make another appearance in the future. — Ed.

One of the best- remembered radio theme tunes of all time was “The Devil’s Galop” from “Dick Barton”. A reader recalls this programme.
