Baker has contributed as much to good music as anyone on the BBC or elsewhere. Although he is well- remembered as a television newsreader he has many more strings to his bow and we trust he won’t mind us using this picture from the front cover of TV Mirror in 1957!

We would particularly like to highlight Richard’s contribution to tuneful music on his wonderful radio shows, and especially the fine artists, composers and orchestras he regularly featured which, more’s the pity, we don’t hear much any more. The anchor man on The Last Night of the Proms for many years, Richard’s knowledge, love and appreciation of good music has been legendary and in retirement he has been a busy musical beaver lecturing on cruises and entertaining elsewhere.

Richard, we salute and thank you for all those many happy musical memories you have given to the nation.

Guildhall School of Music and has conducted many film scores including Chariots of Fire ( 1981). As a composer he also scored the music for I, Claudius ( see Evergreen, Spring 2013).
