MADAM: I’ve been trying to find some old friends from the 1960s and I hope someone might be able to help. They are Hugh Patrick McCabe who married Ada Elizabeth ( Betty) Nicholls at St. Mary’s Church in Goosnargh, near Preston, Lancashire, in 1956. Both were born in 1934.

I first met the McCabes during the autumn of 1961 while serving in West Germany with the Canadian Army. Hugh’s brother, Jim, served in the regiment with me and gave me their address in Herford, Germany, where he was serving with 7 Signals Regt., Royal Signals. Their married quarters quickly became a weekend “home away from home” for me over the next four years, and I enjoyed their hospitality immensely.

In 1965 they were posted to Singapore while I returned to Canada. They later returned to England. Tragically, their eldest daughter, Betty, died in an accident in 1966. They had two other daughters: June, who was probably born in 1958 and Corrine, born in 1963. — 5259 SUTHERLAND ROAD, PEACHLAND,
