MADAM: You published a photo of the Invercauld Arms Hotel in Braemar (“The Past in Colour”, Summer 2016). In the spring of 1945 I returned to the UK from Italy. We were supposed to go to an ex- Canadian lumberjacks’ camp near Braemar, but because of some hold up we couldn’t go there and spent a while in the hotel. I remember we were well looked after by the locals. My mate and I who were both carpenters in working life obtained some work with a local builder. — JOE BEECHEY, FARINGDON, OXFORDSHIRE.
