QUEEN VICTORIA COINS
Many of us can remember Victorian coins which circulated for decades before being withdrawn when they became worn smooth. Unlike today, we considered them old and useless but now they are quite valuable.
Barry Kinder from Throapham in Yorkshire asked if anyone still owns an early Victorian penny when the queen’s hair was adorned in a bun. Following her golden jubilee in 1887, however, the coins were changed to an older image of her wearing a tiara and sombre- looking veil.
