Many of us can re­mem­ber Victorian coins which cir­cu­lated for decades be­fore be­ing with­drawn when they be­came worn smooth. Un­like to­day, we con­sid­ered them old and use­less but now they are quite valu­able.

Barry Kinder from Throapham in York­shire asked if any­one still owns an early Victorian penny when the queen’s hair was adorned in a bun. Fol­low­ing her golden jubilee in 1887, how­ever, the coins were changed to an older im­age of her wear­ing a tiara and som­bre- look­ing veil.
