GILBERT O’SULLIVAN

MADAM: Thank you for the wonderful article on Gilbert O’Sullivan ( “Juke Box”, Winter 2016) which alerted us to his concert tour! He was a particular favourite of mine in the 1970s and some years ago I introduced my son to his music. Even though we live in France, we made a point of catching his concert in London, on Sunday 5th March at The Barbican. The Hall was quite full and it was great to see various age groups singing along with Gilbert and his 10- person band, which included two lovely young women singers.

I must admit that I hesitated a bit before buying the tickets, I was afraid his newer songs would be just take- offs of the old hits. On the contrary, his many new tunes are as rich, as moving and as much fun as any of the old beloved songs. So, if anyone is hesitating about going to his concert, don’t, there is a wider spectrum of Gilbert out there for us fans to enjoy! — ANNIE- CHRISTINE MATHEWS, PARIS, FRANCE.
