WAR MEMORIALS TRUST

Evergreen - - News -

It is sad that ultimate past sacrifices often go unnoticed or, worse, totally unappreciated which is why we are happy to support the War Memorials Trust who send us regular newsletters. The Bible says “How will they know if nobody tells them?” Well, we are happy to tell everyone they have just celebrated their 20th anniversary.

Among their many recent grants was one to restore a steam locomotive ( top right) captured and used by the Japanese army in Singapore. Returned to Britain in 1953 it worked at Chatham Dockyard before finding a permanent home at Rutland Railway Museum where it has just been overhauled by, among others, pupils of nearby Oakham School.
