Evergreen’s Good Music Award

Evergreen - - News -

In the summer issue we honoured Philip Lane and this time we pay tribute to his musical companion and conductor, Gavin Sutherland. Together they have produced a whole range of CDs, specifically of British light music which would never otherwise have been premiered or repeated. A marvellous achievement. Well done!

Gavin has many other strings to his bow, however, and in addition to conducting all over the world he is in demand as a pianist, composer and arranger. Currently Musical Director of the English Ballet he has worked with many other orchestras, especially associated on the recording front with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia and City of Prague Symphony Orchestra.

In 2009 he succeeded Ernest Tomlinson as Chairman of the Light Music Society to which he has since made an extremely valuable contribution. He has also appeared many times with the BBC Concert Orchestra particularly on Friday Night is Music Night, and has also appeared at The Proms, notably in a dance- based “Strictly” concert narrated by Katie Derham.

Congratulations on your award and keep up the good work Gavin.
