Pop­u­lar dur­ing the For­ties, Sid Field played a mul­ti­tude of comic char­ac­ters and had stage au­di­ences rock­ing with laugh­ter. Un­for­tu­nately, his sketches did not trans­fer well onto film and in 1950 he died from a heart at­tack aged only 45.
