Durham 16-19 November 2017 London 18-21 January 2018 As the UK’S largest light festival, artists from around the world will once again come together to the birthplace of the Lumiere Festival and illuminate the City of Durham in new and inspiring ways. A roster of the world’s leading UK and international artists will transform Durham’s urban architecture, illuminating its buildings and public spaces in over forty awe-inspiring site specific light sculptures and installations. Lumiere is more than a four-day light festival: it is an extensive outdoor art gallery that temporarily transforms the public realm. The festival showcases an extraordinary level of ingenuity featuring works that traverse the intersection between technology, public sculpture, videography, electrical engineering, and social project. Completely free to attend, Lumiere is committed to bringing art outside the gallery space, making it open, accessible, inclusive and large in scale. As well as the festival, Lumiere is accompanied by a community engagement programme that reaches hundreds of schoolchildren and local residents with little access to the arts, and leaves a lasting legacy.
