Nominations: Too early to speculate but Director Mike Newell has a strong track record, receiving multiple BAFTAS for Best Film and two Oscar nominations for the romantic comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral, back in 1994. Based on a historical novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows that was published in 2008. It shines a light on Guernsey’s occupation by the Germans in WWII. The film’s leading actress Lily James and co-star Glen Powell combine well to create a compelling romantic drama with an intriguing mystery at its core. With Guernsey and its islanders at the heart of the film, it’s poised to attract new visitors to experience the island that moved producers to adapt the novel for the big screen.
