Froome won the Tour de France for a fourth time in five years, putting him fifth in the all-time win­ners’ list. The 32-year-old beat Rigob­erto Urán of Colom­bia by 54 sec­onds, with a to­tal race time of 86 hours 20 min­utes 55 sec­onds.

Mo­ments af­ter the Team Sky rider claimed the fa­mous yel­low jer­sey at the pres­ti­gious an­nual race, he said: “I’m speech­less. It’s just an amaz­ing feel­ing.”

There was also glory for diver Tom Da­ley, who won his first in­di­vid­ual World Cham­pi­onship gold for eight years in the 10 me­tre plat­form final. Da­ley beat Olympic cham­pion Chen Aisen of China to first place, and he also won a sil­ver medal in the mixed 3m spring­board com­pe­ti­tion with his div­ing part­ner, Grace Reid.
