Froome won the Tour de France for a fourth time in five years, putting him fifth in the all-time winners’ list. The 32-year-old beat Rigoberto Urán of Colombia by 54 seconds, with a total race time of 86 hours 20 minutes 55 seconds.
Moments after the Team Sky rider claimed the famous yellow jersey at the prestigious annual race, he said: “I’m speechless. It’s just an amazing feeling.”
There was also glory for diver Tom Daley, who won his first individual World Championship gold for eight years in the 10 metre platform final. Daley beat Olympic champion Chen Aisen of China to first place, and he also won a silver medal in the mixed 3m springboard competition with his diving partner, Grace Reid.
