OUR BEACHES NEED YOU!
EVERY year, millions of pieces of rubbish wash up on the UK’s beaches. This month, the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is calling on YOU to help, by joining in with the Great British Beach Clean.
From 15-18 September, volunteers from around Britain will be collecting litter at more than 350 UK beaches and rivers.
In 2016, a staggering 268,384 pieces of litter were collected in just one weekend, including plastic bottles, wet wipes and balloons.
It is more important than ever to keep our beaches and oceans clean, so why not donate your time to help? You can find a list of the organised beach cleans happening near you at mcsuk.org/
beachwatch. Don’t forget to tell us if you take part!
While we’re talking about beaches, check out this incredible giant sandcastle in Duisburg, west Germany. The 15m-tall piece of sand art is made from 3,500 tonnes of sand and has been created by German travel company SchauinslandReisen. Guinness World Records will be visiting the epic sandcastle today (1 September) to see if it’s a world record breaker.
The number of single-use carrier bags found in 2016 was half the number found in 2015. Amazing news!
