MYSTERY MIST

First News - - Big News -

A SUSPECTED chemical leak left more than 150 beachgoers with itchy eyes and sore throats in East Sussex last weekend.

The mysterious ‘mist’, which came in from the sea on Sunday (27 August), resulted in Birling Gap (pictured above) being evacuated over the hot bank holiday weekend. Lots of people reported experiencing itchy eyes, sore throats and even breathing difficulties after the mist appeared. Nearby beaches were soon closed.

Those living nearby were advised to keep windows and doors shut for their safety.

By Monday (28 August) morning, the mist appeared to have cleared and beaches in the area were reopened.

As First News went to press, Sussex Police were still unsure what exactly caused the strange “chemical haze”.

The cause was still being investigated but police said the mist was an “isolated incident” and that it was “not expected to recur (happen again)”. Weird!
