A MA­JOR new study of the last re­main­ing dodo bones is re­veal­ing lots of new facts about the ex­tinct bird, which was a rel­a­tive of the pi­geon. The last dodo was spot­ted in 1662, and a lot of what we thought we knew is ac­tu­ally false. It turns out do­dos were brown-grey in colour, turn­ing to black at times. Their eggs hatched in Au­gust and the chicks quickly grew into adults.
