As First News went to press, the Cata­lan par­lia­ment was ex­pected to be an­nounc­ing their in­de­pen­dence. Spain’s deputy Prime Min­is­ter said that if Cat­alo­nia did de­clare in­de­pen­dence, then “there will be de­ci­sions to re­store the law and democ­racy”. This could mean vi­o­lence, and force re­gional elec­tions for Cat­alo­nia.
