The latest figures from the US show that 11,004 people were murdered with a gun in 2016. To compare that to other countries, we can look at the rate of deaths, which is the number of murders with a gun for every million people.

Small Arms Survey figures from 2010-2015 show that the US is ranked 61st in the world, with a rate of 27 gun-related murders for every million people. The ten worst places were all in Central/ South America and the Caribbean. Honduras is ranked first, with a rate of 672 gun-related murders per million. The UK is very close to the bottom of the list, with a rate of around one (in Scotland, the rate is almost zero).
