THE first No­bel Prize in Physics was awarded to Wil­helm Con­rad Rönt­gen in 1901, for the dis­cov­ery of Rönt­gen ra­di­a­tion. Nowa­days, most English-speak­ing coun­tries use the name X-rays for this type of elec­tro­mag­netic ra­di­a­tion.
