THE biggest ever outbreak of listeriosis is taking place in South Africa. The infection is caught from listeria, a bacteria that is found in raw meat, unwashed vegetables and some dairy products. Although it’s a rare illness, in some cases listeriosis can prove deadly. There have been 820 confirmed cases and 82 deaths in South Africa so far.
