MORE PARKS PLANNED
THE Government has announced that millions from its Getting Building fund will go towards creating new parks in England.
£23 million of the £900 million fund will go towards the construction of a massive new park in Manchester’s city centre.
Spanning 6.5 acres, the new Mayfield park is part of a larger £1.4 billion development set to transform the area between Piccadilly station and Mancunian Way.
Leeds will be getting a new city-centre park too, and a new “pocket park” in Sheffield city centre is also planned.
During this pandemic, many of us have relied on parks and green spaces to get fresh air and some time away from home, but lots of people don’t have one close by.
Public Health England says that £2.1bn per year could be saved in public health costs if everyone in England had access to green spaces.
