CAMBRIDGESHIRE
Going Dutch
Road users in Cambridge are getting used to a new kind of roundabout that gives priority to pedestrians and cyclists instead of motorists. The roundabout features a bright red outer ring for cyclists and zebra crossings on each approach road, a design popular in the Netherlands. The local council hopes it will provide a safer environment for everyone who uses it. It had to close for a few days, however, when a car hit a Belisha beacon.
