America is launching its own version of Eurovision next year. The American Song Contest will follow the same format as the annual Eurovision Song Contest, except it will be exclusive to those living and performing in the US. Instead of one singer or group representing a single European country, artists will represent a single US state, such as California or Florida. The American Song Contest will follow the same qualifying format as the Eurovision Song Contest, ending with an over-the-top live final. American Song Contest producer Christer Björkman said: “To have a chance to use everything you know about the format and redo it from the beginning and to bring it to an audience that has no history with it, is such a privilege.”
