PENGUIN POOP SPOTTED FROM SPACE
SATELLITE pictures of penguin poo have revealed new colonies of the birds in Antarctica.
The satellite images show that there are nearly 20% more emperor penguin colonies in Antarctica than previously thought.
Scientists discovered 11 new colonies, meaning there are now 61 across the continent, according to a report in Remote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation.
The birds were identified on the pictures by the way their poo, or guano, had stained large patches of sea ice.
Climate change is a huge threat to the species. If the sea ice melts, they could lose their homes.
