CLIMATE activist group Extinction Rebellion plans to hold local ‘Countdown to Rebellion’ events across the country over the August bank holiday weekend.
Starting on Friday 28 August, organisers say their aim is to “let the Government know that Rebellion is coming”. In villages, towns and cities across the country, activists will organise direct, nonviolent protests.
The next major event will begin on 1 September – the day the UK Parliament returns. Protesters plan to blockade the Houses of Parliament in London, while protests will also take place in Manchester and Cardiff.
Extinction Rebellion says it wants the Government and business leaders to tackle climate change once and for all. In a statement on its website, the group said: “Climate breakdown, COVID-19, racial injustice – all are symptoms of a toxic system that is driving us to extinction. We cannot carry on like this. The system is killing us.”
