Protests con­tinue

Op­po­si­tion to the gov­ern­ment con­tin­ues to grow, with more protests against Pres­i­dent Alexan­der Lukashenko. The leader of 26 years is fight­ing to stay in power, but many peo­ple there be­lieve he cheated in the elec­tion that made him pres­i­dent again on 9 Au­gust. In the past, the pres­i­dent has used the po­lice and the army to stop protests, but in­creas­ing anger has driven peo­ple to take ac­tion. Two peo­ple have died so far and many have been ar­rested.
