What a racket
A gang of poachers has been arrested by police near Barcelona for illegally selling songbirds. More than 260 birds were found in the raid, although it’s thought the gang sold up to 10,000 in secret markets over the last two years. The birds were trapped and caged and kept in terrible conditions before being sold. The finches, linnets and bramblings are all declining in numbers. The highly-organised gang – who made an estimated £130,000 – face up to three years in jail.
