THREE years ago, I heard about the Voices creative writing competition for children in care.

Last year I came second, but this year I won in my category! This brilliant competition gives young people the opportunity to express themselves.

My life was difficult before coming into care and finding my forever mum and dad. I’ve dealt with lots of feelings to be the person I am today. I enjoy writing poetry, finding unusual rhymes and telling stories using real-life situations. It helps to clear my head.

Coram Voice is a brilliant organisation. I loved going to the awards ceremony last year and meeting judges including BBC journalist Ashley John-Baptiste, poet Mr Gee and author Jenny Molloy. It was also fantastic meeting actor Peter Capaldi, who hosted the event. He even let me wear his Doctor Who sunglasses. WOW!

Without entering this competition, I wouldn’t have met these people and discovered how much I enjoy writing.

We all have a poet inside us – we just need to have a go and write from our hearts.
