Work un­der way at £93 mil­lion plant on Skye

MA­RINE Har­vest in­vited lo­cal coun­cil mem­bers to the site of its new feed plant on Skye in June as build­ing work got un­der way, the Press and Jour­nal re­ported.

The project, es­ti­mated to cost £93 mil­lion, is be­ing built by Robert­son Con­struc­tion and com­mu­nity rep­re­sen­ta­tives vis­ited the for­mer quarry at Kyleakin to see how work is pro­gress­ing so far.

A to­tal of 55 full-time jobs will be cre­ated later this year as a re­sult of the de­vel­op­ment.

Scot­land man­ag­ing di­rec­tor, said: ‘We were de­lighted to wel­come mem­bers of the lo­cal com­mu­nity coun­cils to the site to mark the start of con­struc­tion.

‘Work is pro­gress­ing well and we will be start­ing to re­cruit the new work­force of 55 full-time po­si­tions later this year.’

The project fol­lows the suc­cess­ful de­vel­op­ment of a sim­i­lar fa­cil­ity in Nor­way and, once up and run­ning, the Skye plant will also ex­port feed to the com­pany’s op­er­a­tions in Ire­land, Nor­way and the Faroe Is­lands.
