MUCH AS YOU might like to, you can’t tile your bath­room us­ing any shapes with more than six sides - it’s math­e­mat­i­cally im­pos­si­ble. But find­ing use­able shapes with five sides isn’t easy ei­ther. A shape just dis­cov­ered at the Univer­sity of Wash­ing­ton is only the 15th pen­tagon ca­pa­ble of do­ing it – and is the first to be found in 30 years.
