How we laugh on­line has been making the head­lines re­cently af­ter re­searchers at Face­book looked into the ways its users show their ap­pre­ci­a­tion of hu­mour. To the re­lief of English teach­ers every­where, sim­ply typ­ing the words ‘ha ha’ was by far the most pop­u­lar method – ap­pear­ing in 51.4 per cent of the posts where laugh­ter was ex­pressed on the so­cial net­work. Laugh­ter emo­jis (such as ) were the next most pop­u­lar method, pop­ping up in 33.7 per cent of the posts ex­am­ined.
