Here’s a proposal: how about a North Atlantic League Cup played between the top four club sides from each of Portugal, the Netherlands, Scotland and Belgium? UEFA refused permission for a North Atlantic League, but they didn’t veto a North Atlantic League Cup. Those four countries all need to create trophies that can attract some bigger audiences – imagine Rangers vs Ajax, Celtic vs Sporting and Aberdeen vs Porto. Some would call it a fake trophy, but anything can be considered a fake trophy if you want to get all existential about it. Also, what about a Welsh Gold Cup containing Welsh Premier League teams and under-20 teams from the Scottish and English Premier Leagues? Rory Fyfe Smith, Conwy, North Wales
