At Home in the Pays d’oc

Patricia Feinberg Stoner, Fascom, £6.50 Patricia Feinberg Stoner and her husband had spent many happy holidays at the farmhouse they owned in Languedoc, but it was an encounter with a ‘stray’ dog that led them to make it their permanent home. The appealing spaniel actually had an owner, so the couple bought the dog and, rather than taking her back to their central London flat, became ‘accidental expatriates’ for four years. In this engaging memoir, the former journalist and publicist charts the couple’s life in the village, with its familiar cast of eccentric neighbours and elusive tradesmen, as well as the inevitable run-ins with French bureaucracy.
