Sip a café crème with a purring feline on your lap at this ‘cat café’ not far from Place de la Bastille. Customers are nonchalantly welcomed in as if it were a regular café; the golden rules are that you must not feed the cats or disturb any which are asleep.

Laminated cards give details of the dozen felines’ names, ages and provenance, and an enormous scratching post wedged between the floor and the ceiling is the main stage for visitors’ entertainment.

Turn up any time between noon and 10.30pm (closed Mondays) and sample the menu of light meals, weekend brunches and home-made gâteaux.
