Cel­e­brate the best of Brit­tany’s musical cul­ture at the Yaouank fes­ti­val, be­ing held in Rennes, the re­gion’s cap­i­tal, from 1-18 Novem­ber. ‘ Yaouank’ is Bre­ton for young, and along­side more tra­di­tional mu­sic such as kan ha diskan singing, fes­ti­val-go­ers can en­joy mod­ern styles from fur­ther afield in­clud­ing rock, hip-hop and Bol­ly­wood tunes. Movie buffs will find plenty of in­ter­est at the 13th Courts De­vant in­ter­na­tional short-film fes­ti­val in Paris, which is be­ing held at a new, larger lo­ca­tion from 14-21 Novem­ber. Screen­ings will now take place at the MK2 Bi­b­lio­thèque cin­ema and neigh­bour­ing Bi­b­lio­thèque de France, in the 13th ar­rondisse­ment. At one minute past mid­night on the third Thurs­day in Novem­ber (the 16th this year), the lat­est Beaujolais Nou­veau vin­tage is re­leased; a par­tic­u­lar cause for cel­e­bra­tion in the town of Beau­jeu, after which the wine is named. Les Sar­mentelles (which means ‘lit­tle grape cut­tings’) lasts from 15-19 Novem­ber and in­cludes a torch­light pro­ces­sion, tast­ing tours, themed din­ners, mu­sic and fire­works ( pic­tured be­low). Thou­sand of na­ture and wildlife en­thu­si­asts will de­scend on the vil­lage of Mon­tier-en-der in the Haute-marne dé­parte­ment for the 21st Fes­ti­val Photo Mon­tier from 16-19 Novem­ber ( pic­tured above). More than 2,000 im­ages are dis­played at 14 lo­ca­tions, cov­er­ing an­i­mal species, land­scapes and astron­omy.
