Brittany Ferries has ordered a new crossChannel ship for its most popular route, from Portsmouth to Caen. The Honfleur will make three daily return journeys starting in June 2019. The company said the £175 million investment showed its confidence in the UK, especially after Brexit. The Honfleur will be the largest in Brittany Ferries’ fleet, carrying up to 1,680 passengers, 550 cars and 64 lorries. Facilities will include a 120-seat restaurant, two cinemas and a shopping area. brittany-fer

France’s state-owned rail company SNCF has introduced scooters ( trottinettes) at Saint-denis RER station in the Paris suburbs. The manual-push scooters are allowed on pavements and will make it easier for people to get to and from work. A mobile app allows users to order a scooter and find the nearest drop-off point. If the trial is a success, the service will be extended to other RER and métro stations, and the drop-off points increased.

A new start-up airline called Powdair will connect several UK airports with the town of Sion in south-west Switzerland this winter. The service is expected to cut transfer times to the French Alps, in particular the Portes du Soleil area, which includes Avoriaz, Les Gets and Morzine. Flights begin on 11 December and will operate during the ski season from Bristol, Luton, Manchester, Southampton, Edinburgh, London City and London Southend airports. Return flights start from £250 and include 23kg of hold luggage, as well as ski equipment. pow
