Scenic diversions

France - - France At A Glance -

I love every issue of FRANCE Magazine (and your calendar) and was pleased to arrive back from my bi-annual holidays in Pays-de-la-loire/brittany to find the November issue (no. 230) waiting for me.

One article in particular, ‘Family cycling in Brittany’, really took me back. Unfortunately, I am, outside my car, wheelchair bound and am not going to do that distance manually. The Rance is my favourite river and I always make sure that I drive along it. This time, I was on the west bank, wishing to end up for lunch in La Richardais, but it is often my bad luck that the route I take involves me in les déviations and routes barrées!

I always try to travel to and from the Caen or Cherbourg ferry ports by different routes, avoiding the A84 autoroute (except when I went to the recommended Total services at the Aire du Mont Saint-michel).
