THOUGHTS from the PIGEONNIER

French Property News - - 25 - Bon voyage! (PS: You don’t even need to cross the Channel to visit our next French Property Exhibition – see p76 for details)

The great writer TS Eliot once said: “The journey not the arrival matters.” I suspect those who own a French property might beg to differ, especially those who’ve just picked up the keys to their new abode. However, the journey is all part of the ownership, whether your French home is a place to escape to for holidays or represents a whole new way of life across the Channel. Look back to your first holidays in France and I bet you can remember the journey, especially if you were an excited kid. Standing on the deck of a ferry with the briny breeze in your face; looking out the window of a plane at the impossibly fluffy clouds below; or whizzing through the Channel Tunnel 250 feet under the sea. Of course, regular travellers will also have memories of less-enjoyable trips, but it’s all a part of life’s great adventure! And so we celebrate the journey in this special travel issue, with spotlights on French locations that are easy to get to and from, a guide to your travel options, a reader’s top tips for travelling with man’s best friend and news of the latest travel routes and innovations. Please do share your own travel tips with us, by letter, email or on our social media pages – you’ll find all our contact details overleaf.
