The French government has announced it will reduce personal housing allowances ( APL) from October this year in a bid to save €100m in 2017 alone. Some 6.5 million French people currently receive these housing benefits every month but the government wants to cut them by €5 a month. Students rely heavily on such help for their rent and the student syndicates, along with organisations helping the poorest, have called for the government to back-track on the decision.
