Trim hedges

By the end of the month most young birds should have fledged, so privet, yew, beech, hornbeam and laurel can all be trimmed at any point right through to late summer.

✿ Laurel has large leaves so cutting with a hedge trimmer can slice them in half creating an ugly ragged effect. Tidy up with secateurs for a smarter result.

Hedges might be looking a bit shaggy by now, but before you get out the hedge trimmer, make sure there aren’t any birds still nesting in them.
