Start off broccoli seeds

-

Broccoli is a fast-growing crop that can be sown between April and July for harvesting in summer and autumn. You can start seeds offff indoors and plant out when large enough to handle or, because broccoli can germinate in soil temperatures as low as 4.5C (40F), you can sow directly outdoors. Choose a sunny spot and ensure the soil is rich and moist – work in a layer of well-rotted manure or rich compost before planting. Sow seeds 1cm (⅜in) deep and 30-60cm (12-24in) apart with 90cm (3ft) between rows. Keep plants moist, watering well in dry conditions, and feed with a nitrogen-rich fertiliser after four weeks.
