Lift and store tulips

-

Tulips flower better if they’re lifted in late spring and replanted in autumn each year. Having deadheaded them to prevent the plants wasting energy on forming seed heads, wait until the foliage has turned yellow (about six weeks after they’ve finished flowering). Dig up the clumps and carefully remove excess soil from the bulbs, discarding any that are damaged or diseased. Leave them to dry thoroughly on a greenhouse bench or in a shed and discard any remaining debris before bagging up the bulbs into nets or laying them out on trays kept in a dark, warm, airy place.
