What’s in a name?

Some of our moths have interestin­gnterestin­g names. All the bigger speciespec­ies have an English common name ame as well as their Latin one. Here’sere’s a couple of examples. The he Mother Shipton moth is named amed after a legendary 16th century entury witch, while the lackey has a caterpilla­r that’s striped like ike the livery of an old-time servant, or lackey.
