Prince a aids painter’s garden
The Prince of Wales is financially supporting refurbishment of the garden of one of Britain’s greatest artists. Sandycombe Lodge, in Twickenham, was the country retreat of J.M.W. Turner (left), who designed it in 1813 as a retreat and home for his father, William. The award from the Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation helps meet the cost of the garden landscaping and planting. “Restoration includes reinstatement of some of the features clearly seen in William Havell’s coloured drawing circa 1814,” said Catherine Parry-Wingfield, chair of Turner’s House Trust.
